Lake Placid, also
known as "Florida's Lake Country" is
still one of Florida's best kept secrets. With
its rolling hills beautiful lakes and near perfect
climate, its increasingly becoming home to not only
weekenders but both part-time and year-around
residents alike.
This southern
portion of Central Florida, also known
as "The Ridge" is one of the most
scenic areas of the Sunshine State. Our vast abundance of natural beauty and
dedicated wildlife sanctuaries supports resident
populations of osprey and bald eagles as well as many
other forms of wildlife.
Hiking
and biking can be found all over Lake Placid and the
rest of the county. They are continually creating new
multi-use trails. We have some of the best places to
hike, bike and view wildlife in our many
parks.
The 27 pristine
freshwater lakes and sandy beaches make for great
family fun. Whether you choose to boat, swim, fish,
sail, ski, tubing or wakeboarding, Lake Placid has so
much to offer making it a recreational
paradise. While
you can enjoy the friendliness and warm southern
hospitality of this community, you don’t have
go far away for the amenities of larger metropolitan
centers. Being the most southern city in Highlands
County, Lake Placid is within 100 miles of
major population centers of the
state. You can take in the major attractions in
Orlando, just 100 miles from Lake Placid or
experience the exciting night life in Fort Lauderdale
by driving 125 miles and the Gulf of
Mexico is just 82 miles away.
